EMERALD SOCIETY OF ILLINOIS

From the President
I hope that every one enjoyed the holidays and has managed to recover by now. We had a wonderful time at our Annual Children's Christmas party, seeing the excitement in the children's faces was quite a treat. We had a Clown, Elves, Magician and the star of the show Santa himself. I still don't know if I'll ever get used to seeing Santa led into the room by bagpipers but I wouldn't have it any other way. I would like to thank Kathie Ebeling and all the others who worked so hard to make this another successful event, an event that these children will remember for a long time to come.
On a sadder note, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the passing of Don Egan. Don was an integral part of this organization. He did most of his work behind the scenes, usually the jobs that no one else wanted to do. He always seemed to manage to keep us focused on our objectives. Don attended every event and meeting that his health and the weather permitted. Don will be missed by all of us, we will keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.
I would like to apologize to anyone that was inconvenienced by the sudden change of locations for the January meeting. There was a mix up on the church calendar and the hall was double booked for the evening. Thanks to the FOP we were fortunate enough to have an alternate location to meet and the other group did not. In spite of the mix up the meeting went well. Our chili contest contestants supplied us with a wide variety of chill's to choose from. I'm sure I saw several individual try them all, myself included. If you are a chili lover this is definitely the meeting to attend every year.
Twenty Officers were honored at our February Awards Night. These officers were nominated by their fellow officers, this alone speaks volumes about the character of these individuals. Their actions saved an untold numbers of lives, prevented numerous future crimes and have brought honor and credit to their respective departments and our profession.
Fraternally,
Richard Toolis
President
Our annual family event was a success due to the efforts of so many people. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Atkins, Mark Rue, Patrick Moran, Mr. Donnelly and Kevin Taylor for helping with the set up. Rick Toolis and the Kitchen Krew, whose culinary skills, provided our wonderful lunch. Kevin Barry for his outstanding train layout, our awesome elves for their assistance at the crafter's comer and assisting Santa, My daughter Allison, Chris Taylor, and the clean up crew. I truly appreciate all you did - Wishing all of you a healthy, happy and incredible 2007.
Thanks,
Kathie
We would like to thank all of our members that took part in this years Annual Chili Cook Off. We had about eight entries ranging from turkey to vegetarian and everything in between. Our judges Smith & Wollensky's Executive Chef: Hans Aeschbacher and Saddle & Cycle Club General Manager Richard Duggan both said they had a hard time deciding this years winners. We even had a tie for second place, but this years winner was Rick "just the chef Toolis. Everyone in attendance got to sample the smorgasbord of chili's' supplied by our contestant and it looked like many of them sample them all. We would like to give a special thanks to our guest judges for making time in their busy schedules to help us with this annual event.

It has been brought to our attention that Folding Chairs and Tables will be needed for this Saturday's Event, as there is a shortage of picnic tables, and we are not sure if the forest preserve will be able to get any more.
So please bring folding chairs and tables if you can, and pass this information around.
